If you are around Ponte Vedra on Wednesday night, come check out a presentation by Joe Zarzynski, archaeologist and documentary filmmaker, on the recently debuted documentary Search for the Jefferson Davis. On hand also will be LAMP archaeologist Chuck Meide, who will answer questions related to the archaeology research which was the focus of the documentary.
The Search for the Jefferson Davis was recently screened at the Amelia Island Film Festival. It was filmed in 2009 on location in St. Augustine where LAMP archaeologists were conducting research in hopes of locating the remains of this historically significant shipwreck, the most successful privateer of the Civil War. The search for this shipwreck has been a long-term project for the archaeologists at LAMP, but its discovery has proven elusive. The documentary is a great film documenting this search, and the scientific processes involved.
